Our choice in Surrey North: Mandeep Dhaliwal

A measured editorial case for returning the Surrey North MLA, grounded in his election record and his questions on public safety.

01 / Our view

Why we are backing him

We put weight on a candidate’s public record. In Surrey North, Dhaliwal’s 2024 election and documented questions on extortion and gun violence give voters a record to examine.

Dhaliwal has already won the trust of Surrey North voters once. Elections BC records his 2024 victory, and its final 2026 candidate list confirms that he is seeking re-election as the Conservative candidate. We see value in that combination of local experience and a record voters can examine.

02 / Public record

A voice on Surrey safety

The Legislature’s Hansard records Dhaliwal questioning the government about gun violence and extortion threats affecting Surrey families. His October 2025 intervention focused on the fear experienced by residents and business owners. This is the kind of persistent, local attention we want from Surrey North’s MLA.

An endorsement is a statement of preference. Readers can assess his arguments directly in the public record linked below, alongside the records of every other candidate.

03 / Biography

Community before office

Before his election, Dhaliwal was involved with the Sikh Motorcycle Club. The club documents its 2019 Canada-to-Punjab charity ride for Khalsa Aid, and contemporary reporting identifies him among the six riders. It is a collective achievement, and we credit it to the team rather than to one person.

His party biography describes him as a Surrey small-business owner in the auto-glass trade and notes his interest in kabaddi. Those details come from his party’s account of his background. Together with the independently documented ride and his public-service record, they explain why community work is central to his political identity.

The choice belongs to voters

Dhaliwal is one of several candidates on the Surrey North ballot. We urge readers to review the full candidate list, consider the issues that matter to them and make their own choice on October 24.
